About Switch Digest

Inception

The idea for Switch Digest took shape when its facilitator was asked: "How are you even surviving?!" and "Why do you have to be so special?" after revealing to a small group that he no longer uses X and Y Big Tech services. With a robot voice and stilted movements, he replied "I was already alive and fully operational long before those companies existed. I think I will manage.”

He reflected on the psychological, financial, and technical traps of depending on a handful of Big Tech ecosystems. Questions emerged:

  • Is Big Tech’s grip on our lives so tight that we can’t function without them? Are we okay with this?
  • What would motivate others to at least explore other options?
  • Am I really "special" and a radical, or a part of a quiet movement?
  • How can I show a growing movement away from (or toward) dominant Big Tech ecosystems without collecting a single byte of personal data?

The answer is Switch Digest, a public, anonymous ledger of real people stepping back from Big Tech monopolies, covering everything from email and search engines to mobile operating systems and cloud storage.

Our principles

  • Community-driven

Every figure comes from anonymous declarations submitted by the public. No corporate sponsors set the agenda.

  • Privacy by default

We collect no accounts, no cookies for tracking, and no personal information. Aggregate data is all we process.

  • Accessible and Sustainable

Switch Digest conforms to WCAG 2.1 standards by removing heavy, complex UI/UX elements, ensuring full accessibility for users. The lightweight design saves computing power, reduces data transfer, and runs on a green server powered entirely by renewable energy.

  • Independent

Switch Digest is run by volunteers. We accept no funding that would compromise our neutrality.
